Biography

Benjamin H. White was the son of William White & Mary Simpson. He was born about 1804, in Franklin County, Georgia.

He married Margaret "Peggy" Smith on 18 Jul 1829 in Franklin County, Georgia. (Note: Benjamin's sister, Jane Virginia White, married Henry A. Smith in 1817 in Franklin County, Georgia. His brother, Samuel White, married Fadey Smith on 21 Apr 1836, in Franklin County, Georgia. It is possible that these three SMITHS may be related, just something for family researchers to be aware of.)

The 1830 Franklin County, Georgia census lists Benjamin H. White with the following family members: 1 male of ten and under twenty; 1 male of twenty and under thirty; 1 female under five years of age; 1 female of fifteen and under twenty. This appears to definitely be Benjamin, son of William White and Mary Simpson -- his brother-in-law, Henry A. Smith, who is married to Benjamin's sister, Jane Virginia White, is living just four doors down. His brother, Sion White, is also on this page of the census. His mother, Mary White, is on the previous page of the census, with his brothers, Pleasant & Martin.

On 19 Aug 1831, Benjamin White sold property to an Elam Farmer, in Franklin County, Georgia. The deed also mentions Martin White, and their mother, Mary White.

Georgia Property Tax Digests show that Benjamin lived in Franklin County, Missouri through 1833.

In 1840 Benjamin and his wife, Margaret, and their family were living in Benton County, Alabama.

In 1850, they are living in Subdivision 25, Benton County, Alabama. His brother, Pleasant D. White, is also living here in District 28, Benton County, Alabama, in 1850. NOTE: Benton became Calhoun County in 1858.

Benjamin died some time between 1850 and the 1860 census, when his widow and children were living in Rabbit, Calhoun County, Alabama on the 1860 census. Benjamin's brother, Pleasant D. White, is also on this same census, from 1860 through 1866. I believe that Benjamin H. White may be buried at the Nances Creek United Methodist Cemetery, where his brother Pleasant was buried in 1867.
