Biography

Nancy C. White was born in approximately 1878, in Oregon.[1],[2] Nancy's father, William, was born in Tennessee[1],[2],[3] and her mother Amanda was born in either Oregon[1] or Missouri[2],[3].[4] Her parents moved her to Oregon when she was an infant, in 1843.[4]

Nancy had several siblings, including at least Owen (b. abt 1861 in Oregon), Elizabeth (b. abt 1863 in Oregon), Orvy (sp?) (b. abt 1866 in Oregon), William (b. abt 1868 in Oregon), Rosella (b. abt 1871 in Oregon), Harriet (b. abt 1873 in Oregon), and Delia (b. abt 1876 in Oregon).[3] In 1880, the family was residing together in Cottonwood, Oregon, where Nancy's father was farming and all the children except Owen and Elizabeth were attending school.[3]

Nancy married James R. Means, Jr. when she was 18 and he was 30.[2] James R. Means, Jr. worked for a time as a contractor and builder.[4] The couple had four children, including Leland J. (b. abt 1902 in Oregon), Harriet H. (b. abt 1910 in Oregon), and twins Dorothy and Hazel.[1] In 1920, James was farming and the family was living together in Stanfield, Oregon.[1]

In 1930, James was working at a carpenter and he and Nancy were living at 513 North Railroad in Pendleton City, Oregon with Dorothy and Hazel.[2]
