John White was born in Hampshire, England.

John was born in 1848. his birth being registered at Andover, Hampshire in the 1st quarter of 1849[1]. He was the son of David White and Hannah Hamblin.

He was Christened on 24 December 1848 at Goodworth Clatford, Hampshire, England[2].

In 1881 John White was recorded as a Lodger in the household of Henry Gibbons (aged 27) and his wife Julia Gibbons (27) in Bourne Street, St Mary Bourne, Hampshire, England. He was aged 32 and recorded as a Widower.

He married, secondly, Harriett Crockford in 1890 in Alverstoke, Hampshire[3].

They went on to have four children.

By 31 March 1901 John White was living in Jamaica Place, Alverstoke, Hampshire with his second wife Harriett (aged 37) and three young children John (6), Harriett (3) and Edith (1). He was aged 52. Also in the household was his brother Thomas.
