Research Project

A White Family Research Project has been formed. This Project focuses on robust documentation of descendants with the White surname who were some of the first settlers of Colonial Virginia, eventually migrating and becoming some of the first settlers in what would become the State of North Carolina. Many of the early progenitors of this line also become leaders of the Quaker movement. Y-DNA analysis has determined that descendants of this line carry the I-M253 - subgroup I-FT410059 Haplogroup and possibly immigrated from South Petherton, Somerset, England. Descendants of Henry White are part of this group. Details of the Research Project can be found here: White Family Research Project.

Henry White-4121 is being realigned as brother to John White-70078 from John White Sr.-6721. This is being done after extensive research, supplemented by significant Y-DNA analysis, which indicates that descendants of White-4121 share a genetically close relationship with descendants of John White-70078 (Y-DNA STR of 2 @ 111) with the same Haplo Group I-M253 indicating these two were likely brothers. Furthermore, descendants of John White-6721 carry a Haplo Group of R-M269 making any common ancestor with Henry White-4121 a genetic impossibility within the last 5,000-10,000 years. Justification for this move (both traditional and Y-DNA Geneology) is detailed on the John White-70078 wiki page.

While it is believed the father of these brothers is a William White, current research does not support the assumption that Reverend William White-4125 is their father. Unfortunately, to add Henry as John’s brother, an assumption must be made concerning a father. For the moment I’ve added William White-62685 as an assumption but this has not been proven.

I have been working over the last several years compiling a Y-DNA database from descendants of the Quaker White's from VA/NC, including Henry White, John White, and Thomas White. I would like to work with the managers of this page to sort through some of this information. Specifically, I do not believe John White-6721 is brother of Henry White-4121. I make this claim based on data we have compiled that indicates descendants of John White-6721 have an entirely different Y-DNA Haplo Group (R-M269) and those of Henry White-4121come from the I-M253 Group and show a very, very strong genetic relationship to John White-484 (possibly the son of John White-70078) and brother to Henry White-4121. Much of my research is shown of the White-70078 and White-484 wikitree pages.
