Martha White is seen as the wife of John Straiton in the 1851 Census.[1] In this Census she is stated to have been born at Legerwood in Berwickshire. This Census indicates her age as 43 while the 1841 Census suggests her age was 30.[2] The latter has been used to calculate her year of birth at 1811.
In 1861 the family was living at 6 Chirnside Cottages at Edrom.[3]
