SULLIVAN - Benton Robert (Bob) White, 83, of Sullivan, slipped peacefully away on his journey home at 8:30 p.m. on July 14, 2009, surrounded by his loving wife & family.
Friends & family can join us to celebrate his life on Friday July 17, 2009 at 1:30 p.m., with Brother Frank Marshall officiating, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Burial will be in Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany. Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice. Bob was born on March 4, 1926, in Fountain Run, Monroe County, Kentucky, the middle child of Felix Otto & Mattie Lou (Tipton) White. In his younger years, he worked in the rolling mill & flour mill in Fountain Run. After coming to Illinois, he has been self employed as a farmer, carpenter, & maintenance worker. He accepted Christ as his personal savior in 1946 & joined the Fountain Run Baptist Church where he was a member until moving to Illinois. He joined the Sullivan Southern Baptist Church in 1964, where he is still a member. Bob & Dorothy Marie Bridges met when they were both six years old, & have been constant companions since that time. They were married on March 24, 1945, in Fountain Run, Monroe County, Kentucky & spent many years in Kentucky-Tennessee area. They moved to Warrensburg, Illinois in 1957, but have lived in Moultrie County for almost 50 years. They had 64 wonderful years together, sharing many of the same interests & six children which they cherish. Together they owned & operated White's Shelter Care Home in Bethany for 10 years. Many hours were spent working beside each other making crafts, which they sold at local craft shows. Bob also loved woodworking & working in the yard. Walking around their house, you could look in any direction & see his hours of labor with all the flowers & landscaping he enjoyed. In his spare time he loved fishing until he was unable to go.
Although he is joining his heavenly family, he leaves behind his loving wife Dorothy of Sullivan, sons; Reuben White of Bloomingdale, GA, Danny (Colleen) White of Jacksonville, IL, Robert Terry (Dorothy) White of Decatur, IL, Ricky (Cheryl) White of Pooler, GA, Tommy White of Miami, FL; daughter, Shelia Lee of Sullivan; 10 grandchildren & 21 great-grandchildren; & special family friend Rose Leavitt.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Willie Louis, James Fonzo & Charles Jefferson White; sisters, Mary Catherine Grady & Mary Francis (Pauline) Burnett.
