Biography
Joseph was born about 1803. He passed away in 1885.
His obituary, from the Amherstburg Echo, February, 1885, reads, as follows:
"It is with sadness that we chronicle, this week the death of one of the oldest residents of this county. On Saturday last, Joseph White sr., died at his home on Crawford Avenue, Windsor. The deceased gentleman was born in Anderdon township, Essex County, some 82 years ago, on what is known as the Indian Reservation, and took an active part in the early border struggles, being a participant in the battle of Windsor which occurred in 1838. He was a member of the Wyandotte Indians, and has been Head Chief of the Anderdon Band for over 30 years. He was an active member of the St. Jean Baptiste Society of Amherstburg and had lived in Anderdon township until last year, when he purchased and moved into his new home at Windsor. His funeral took place last Monday. Services was [sic] held at the Catholic Church, Sandwich, on that day, at 9 o’clock a.m., thence his remains were taken down to the Wyandotte cemetery. His funeral was largely attended and met by a deputation of the St. Jean Baptiste Society and the Catholic Clergy, of Amherstburg. He has been a constant member of the Catholic Church for many years. He was married about 55 years ago to a daughter of Captain Fortier, formerly of Quebec, and celebrated his golden wedding at his homestead at Anderdon. He was father of twelve children, six of whom have died, 4 sons and two daughters. His surviving children are Solomon White, M.P.P., Joseph and Alexander of Windsor, Thos. B. of Anderdon, Mrs. P. Raymond, Mrs. Scully, and an adopted son, John S. of Windsor. His widow also remains and lives in the family residence, Windsor. Deceased had been a true friend to all, a faithful father, a loyal citizen and a temperance man all his life."

He was married to Angelique Fortier; and his obituary states she was the daughter of a Captain Fortier of Quebec.
