Biography

Birth

Ella was born on the Fourth of July 1881. Her father was A. White and her mother was Susie Redhorn. The 1933 census gives Ella's maiden name as "White" and the obituary of Frank White lists Ella Yellowthunder as his sister, and A. White as their father.

Name

Her birth order name was Hīnū́gā, "First Daughter." (1919 census)

Education

"Mrs. Ella Yellow Thunder cannot read, write or speak English. She can only talk in Winnebago. She is almost 90 years old [in 1963] and her daughter does the interpreting for her." (Headstone Request)
