Biography

Joseph White, son of Daniel and Hannah (Hunt) White was born at Marshfield, Plymouth Colony, 1 Mar 1677/8.[1][2][3]

Marriage

Joseph White, of Marshfield, married at Scituate, Massachusetts, 21 Dec 1710, Elizabeth Dwelly.[1][4] She was born at Scituate, 25 Aug 1687, daughter of Richard and Amy/Eame (Glass) Dwelly. Elizabeth died 30 May 1751 age 64 at Lebanon. The division of her father's estate in 1709 named the widow Amy and one child Elizabeth.[1]

1748

15 June 1748 - Joseph White of Marshfield, gentleman, sold Abijah White "all my dwelling house, barns, and land formerly my Father Daniel White's"; his wife Elizabeth released her dower.[1][5] Joseph and Elizabeth may not have left Marshfield until late 1748. However, their daughter Ruth married at Lebanon, Connecticut, in 1736.[1]

Death

Joseph died at Lebanon, Connecticut, before 27 March 1764, the date his will was proved.[1] He was buried at the Goshen Cemetery in Lebanon, but only the footstone survives.[6]

Will

The will of Captain Joseph White of Lebanon was dated November 6, 1753 and proved on March 27, 1764. He named daughters Ruth Thomas (late of Lebanon, deceased); son-in-law Amos Thomas, and their children: Ruth, Bethia, Abijah, Lucy, Amos and Molly (all under age); daughter ElizabethTilden, granddaughter Elizabeth Tilden; sons-in-law Amos Thomas and Joseph Tilden were executors.[1][7] The estate of Captain Joseph White was appraised, 2 April 1764, valued at £662 and contained many items of debt owned to him.
