Biography

William Henry White 20 Feb 1825 Christ Church, Southwark, son of William East White chairmaker of Duke Street and Frances. -1887. William Henry White giving evidence about the theft of some cloth from William East White, began “I live with my father , William East White, draper in the Kingsland road. On 16th Nov, about half-past two, I received information, ran into the road, and saw the prisoners running away together. Slate and Sutmire had two pieces of cloth each. I pursued them into Albion Square, and lost sight of them just as they turned the corner. I turned and saw them again, caught them, and gave them all in custody. There were four at first.” [Proceedings of the Old Bailey, 27 Nov 1848, ref t18481127-108] William Henry White 21 mathematical instrument maker of Mincing Lane, son of William East White cabinet maker, married Ann Doherty 23 of Bat Lane daughter of Morice Doherty agent, on 1 May 1842 at St Anne & Agnes, London. [m.cert]] Married secondly Elizabeth East Fletcher on 12 June 1851 in Melbourne. Elizabeth East Fletcher bap 11 June 1818 at Great Marlow, Bucks, da of Charles Fletcher and Ann Wright Lomax. William Henry East of Rokewood storekeeper was elected auditor of the Shire of Leigh in 1870 to 1878. [Geelong Advertiser, 6 Aug 1870] Ann Wright Lomax 5 April 1790 Great Marlow was daughter of James Lomax and Hannah Ann East. Elizabeth died on 22 April 1884 at Rokewood, and William married thirdly Agnes McGaan 1863 -1944 in 1885. William of Rokewood storekeeper died intestate in 1887. [The Argus, 14 Oct 1887]
