Her Hocąk clan name was MaHeHaNarSheWinKah, which is for Mą̄xíhanąžįwįga, "She Stands on the Clouds". This is from mą̄xí, "sky; clouds (collectively)"; hanąžį́, "to stand, to step (up) on"; -wį-, a feminine gender infix; -ga, a definite article suffix used in personal names. (1910 census, van Schaick) This is an Upper Moiety name, although it is evident that she was from a Lower Moiety family. It may be that her mother T’ą̄gūhiwįga never married Whitebear, and gave her daughter a name from her own moiety.
In the 1910 census (and thereafter), Kate is called "Annie W". This is apparently the name under which Kate chose to go, the /W/ standing for "Whitebear". They had a son John (b. 13 October 1913). (1914 census)
Marriages
Her marriage to Jasper Blowsnake on 14 January 1909 in Iowa was her first marriage. (Iowa Marriages)
Her second marriage was to a member of the Thundercloud lineage. (van Schaick)
