Newton Whitehurst was born after 1796 in Beaufort County, North Carolina. He was the son of Simon Whitehurst and Mary Ann Scott. He is reported to have been a very large man weighing over three hundred pounds. He was a hatter in Monticello, Jefferson County, Florida for some years. He was married and lived many years in Suwanee County, Florida and is reported to have died there after 1836. Some of his descendants lived near Live Oak, Florida in 1870.
