Biography

Robert was born 06 Jan 1878 in Scotland.^[1] His parents are John Whitelaw and Elizabeth Howison.

On 01 Nov 1881, Robert arrived in New York, New York on the ship Egyptian Monarch traveling with his mother Elizabeth Howison, his younger sister Agnes Whitelaw, and his uncle David Whitelaw. ^[2] (His father John Whitelaw had arrived ahead of the rest of the family on 16 Aug 1880.)

On 09 Jun 1900, the U.S. Census enumerated Robert (22) residing at 1765 Thomas Street, Chicago, Cook, Illinois with his parents John Whitelaw (46) and Elizabeth Howison (43), and seven siblings: Agnes (20), James (17), Elizabeth (15), Hannah (12), David (10), John (7) and Violet (3). Robert's occupation was given as "Clerk (Electrical works)." ^[3]
