Son of Robert Whitelaw (1832-Deceased) and Mary Shaw (1836-Deceased).
Archibald Whitelaw married Effie Mae Aylsworth on September 15, 1896 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa. At the time of marriage, Archibald was 32 years old, and Effie was 21.

1920 United States Census, Broome, New York: Archibald Whitelaw is head of household, treasurer for a department store age 56, with wife Effie Whitelaw age 44, and children Helen age 19, and Eda May age 18.
1930 United States Census, Binghamton, Broome, New York: Archibald Whitelaw is head of household, a dry goods merchant age 65, with wife Effie Whitelaw age 55. Also in the home is their servant, Margaret McDonald, age 32, born in Ireland.
Archibald and Effie lived in Binghamton, Broome, New York but owned sheep farms in Australia.

Archibald Whitelaw Dies at 73; Ws Executive for 20 years in Fowler, Dick & Walker Store. Succumbs to Heart Ailment at Home; Came to Binghamton in 1882.
Archiblad Whitelaw, native of Glasgow district, Scotland and for more than 20 years vice presicent and general manager of the Fowler, Dick & Walker department store here, died at his home, 50 Riverside Drive late Tuesday Afternoon. Death following a long heart condition, culminating with treatment at the Binghamton City Hospital until two weeks ago she he returned home. He was 73.
The funeral will be at the Whitelaw home Friday at 2pm with the Rev. Theodore J. Dewees rector of Christ church, officiating. Burial will be in the Whitelaw family plot at Spring Forrest cemetery.
Mr. Whitelaw was born on a farm 10 miles from Glasgow in 1863. He was only six years old when he went to live on an uncle's farm at Fenwick, a village of 1000 population near Kilmarnock. As soon as old enough, he worked on the farm and attended school. On three mornings of every week he rose at 3 o'clock, hitched his uncle's horse to the two-wheeled cart and started for Glasgow, 10 miles away, to peddle milk and farm produce. At 15 he left school to become an apprentice at the W. & G. Miller wharehouse in Glasgow working for 3 years for $1.50 weekly. Then he came to New York city and in September, 1892 reached Binghamton with a letter of introduction from a Scotch friend of Gilbert Walker, member of Fowler, Dick & Walker.
He began his local business service with the Fowler, Dick & Walker store, then located in Washington street, and put his first dollar in an account at the old Chenango Valley Savings bank, now merged with the Binghamton Savings Bank. Seven years later he was sent as firm representative to Council Bluff, Ia,., to manage the Fowler, Dick & Walker branch store there. He returned to Binghamton in 1902 as manager of the main store here and steadily arose to the office of vice president. He aso was president of the Mutual Fabric Co. He visited the land of his birth in June 1920.
Mr. Whitelaw was thirty-second degree Mason, being a member of Otseningo Lodge, 435 F & A. M.; and of Kalurah Temple. Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; a member of the 21 Club, the Binghamton club and the Binghamton Country club.
He married at Council Bluff in 1895 to Miss Effie Aylesworth and she survives; with two daughters, Mrs. James Blewer of Johnstown and Mrs. Leon G Kennedy of Binghamton; two sisters Mrs. James Boyd of Klrn, Scotland and Mrs. David Lyle of Greenock, Scotland; a brother Robert Whitelaw of Gartmore, Scotland; and two granddaughters Barbara Blewer and Ann Aylesworth Kennedy, and a grandson, Archibald Whitelaw Kennedy of Binghamton.
