The following obituary was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Kadina and Wallaroo Times, on 4 November 1933:[2]
A well liked and widely known personality in Mr. Albert Emanuel Chas. Whitelaw, of Kadina South, passed away on Saturday last, October 28, at the age of 56, after having been in ill health for several years. Born at Kilkerran in 1877, he was the eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs. Robert Whitelaw, and received his education at the place of his birth. As a young man, like so many others, he engaged in carting timber to the Moonta mines, but later on became a share farmer at Kilkerran and then at Weetulta. Despite ill health he worked till last season, when he was forced to relinquish his activities. Quiet of disposition, hardworking, kindly and helpful, he was much esteemed by many friends, and though he took no public office, was an active influence in any movement for the welfare of the district. Keenly interested in stock-breeding and other agricultural pursuits, he never missed a show, and attended every function of the Maitland society from the inception of that organisation, missing only the previous year's shows. In 1906, he married Miss Minnie Ruth Wicks, a daughter of the late Mr. (sic) and Mrs. T.B. Wicks, of Weetulta. There are no children. The widow survives and there are two brothers (Messrs. Arthur Whitelaw, Moonta and Gilbert Whitelaw, Maitland) and two sisters (Mesdammes G.E. Wood, Price; and J.W. Moody, Kilkerran).
