Ellen was born in Carrickalinga, South Australia during 1867. She is the daughter of Robert Whitelaw and Janet Unknown. She passed away in Medindie Gardens, South Australia during 1947.

Ellen was born in Carrickalinga, South Australia on 3 July 1867.^[1]

Ellen married Carl Fredrich Wilhelm Qualmann at Maitland, South Australia on 5 August 1891.^[2] The following marriage notice was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Advertiser, on 26 August 1891:^[3]

QUALMANN—WHITELAW.—On the 5th August, at Calder Farm, the residence of the bride's mother, by the Rev. J. Perry, C. F. William (Will), eldest son of J. H. Qualmann, to Ellen Wilson (Nellie), youngest daughter of the late Robert Whitelaw, all of Maitland, Y.P.

Ellen, her husband and their two eldest children changed their surname to "Coleman" in 1917.^[4]

Ellen died at Medindie Gardens, South Australia on 8 February 1947 at the age of 79 years.^[5] The following death notice was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Mail, on 8 February 1947:^[6]

COLEMAN.— On February 8, at her residence, 25 Sherbourne road, Medindie Gardens, Ellen Wilson, dearly beloved wife of C. W. Coleman, and loving mother of Sydney (Maitland), Jessie (Mrs. P. Olds, deceased) and Nellie (Mrs. C. Stagg, deceased). In her 80th year. Peacefully sleeping.

Ellen was buried at the Maitland Cemetery in Maitland, South Australia on 10 February 1947.^[7]
