In July 1922 Bob Whiteman's home burned down. From the Burnie Advocate of 25 July 1922:
A fire occurred at Barrington on Sunday night, which completely destroyed a "cottage and contents. The building was owned by Mr. D. Mason, of Barrington, and occupied by Mr. B. Whiteman. The latter was away at Moriarty, together with his family, and the house was unoccupied when the fire occurred. The furniture, which was owned by the tenant, was partly covered by insurance. Much sympathy will be extended to Mr. Whiteman over his severe loss. He is a married man with five small children.
Not long afterwards the Whiteman family moved to Northcote, Melbourne, Victoria.
Robert was registered to vote in 1924 in Northcote, Batman, Victoria, Australia.He was a lbourer living at 8 Robbs Parade, Northcote.[5]
Robert was registered to vote in 1954 in Warrnambool, Wannon, Victoria, Australia.He was living at 20 Latrobe Street with nil occupation. At the same address was his son Kenneth James Whiteman, factory employee, and Elizabeth Rebecca Whiteman, home duties.[6]
Robert Whiteman died on 1 November 1957 in Bendigo, Victoria, at the age of 74.[7] He is buried at Kangaroo Flat Cemetery plot C Of E, Grave 4854. There is a headstone.[8]
