Biography


James Whiteside was born on 01 Oct 1834 in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana. He was the son of Madison Whiteside and Matilda (Collins) Whiteside. His mother died in 1842. His father married Mary Sayre in 1843. The 1850 census[1] lists James as living with his family in Noble, Wabash, Indiana where his father is a hard ware merchant.

On 24 Sep 1860 James married Emily Hunter in Indiana. Between 1861 and 1868 Emily gave birth to their four children. The 1880 census[2] shows James raising his family in Noble Township, Wabash, Indiana where James does farm labor.

Emily died in 1904. James Whiteside passed away on 19 March 1920 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. He is buried[3] at Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan next to Emily.
