Biography

Francis came to Western Australia with his wife and eight children (the eldest daughter remaining in Ireland) on the James, arriving on 8 May 1830.[1]

His wife was a relative of R.G.Meares.

He traced the Helena River to its source in March1833. He was granted 1,500 acres in Swan district, 4,059 acres (Avon Loc U2) at Toodyay at "Knockdominie". He was Resident Magistrate at Guildford in 1830 and became a JP in October 1835. He transferred to Toodyay in 1838- but resigned in 1840 after a domestic scandal.[1]

Francis died in Guildford on 10 May 1857.[2]
