Mary was born in 1827 (husband, Robert Embleton, in his biographical account of his life, says July 20th. Their daughter, Margaret Annie, in a diary entry says July 30th) at Blue House, Monkton, and christened in Jarrow Church, Durham^. The England and Wales Census, 1861 indicates a birthplace Gateshead, Durham. The England and Wales Census, 1881. indicates a birthplace Washington, Durham.
She married Robert Embleton May 22, 1853 at Kelloe Church, Kelloe, UK. [1][2][3]
She and Robert initially resided in Kelloe but relocated to Trimdon Grange and after that to West Hartlepool.
Mary Ann had nine children, six of whom lived to adulthood. She is cited on the following records:

She is shown on the census for 1861, living in Trimdon Grange, with her husband Robert, grocer (mistakenly entered as John, but Mary Ann's older sister, Ellen Hogarth - identified by Robert's autobiographical account as the person who introduced them to each other in London in 1851- is also on this census ), with Joseph and John George, the two surviving children she had as of that date. She is also listed on the census record for 1871, with her husband Robert and four of her children. [13] A domestic servant is also listed.
In the diary of her daughter, Margaret Anne, the family moved from Kelloe to West Hartlepool in November 1877.
Her sister, Ellen Hogarth, reappears on the census for 1881 as a visitor, along with her husband Robert and three youngest children - Margaret, Robert, and William.[14]
She passed awayon Feb 14, 1883 (details in the diary of her daughter, Margaret Anne) and is buried in West Hartlepool Cemetery. [15][16]
Her name appears on the death registration for her daughter Margaret Annie Embleton Wilkinson.[17]
