He may be the nephew, rather than son, of Robert. Was living 1165-1214. He held Whitfield by annual token payments. He took the surname Whitfield and his successors appear to have been known as the Earls of Whitfield until the estate was sold in 1750. It was he who apparantly adopted the Whitfield coat of arms.
