George's mother had died before he was eight years old, and he grew up living with his father, aunt and grandparents on the family's farm at La Haie Fleurie (French for The Flowery Hedge) in the parish of St Martin, Jersey. He became a Wesleyan minister, later Methodist, serving for many years in England, and was honoured by many at his burial 13 Nov 1964 at St Martin's, after his death at age 92. Gratitude was expressed for all the care he had shown during the war years, to Channel Islanders in England who had left their homes in Jersey for the duration of the German occupation of the island.
