Biography

Theresa "Thirza" Whitlock was born about 1808 in Kentucky, United States. She was the daughter of Charles Whitlock and Elizabeth Rea.

Thirza married Leonard Puckett on August 21, 1830 in Rutherford County, Tennessee.^[1][2][3] They had children.

1. Socrates Puckett was born 1833 in Kentucky; married Catharine O'Salle on August 27, 1856 in Henry County, Tennessee; married Sarah Ann Elizabeth McDuffie; died 1886 in Collin County, Texas.
2. John S Puckett was born about 1834 in Tennessee; married Mary Ann Bushart on September 23, 1851 in Henry, Henry County, Tennessee.
3. Charles A Puckett was born about 1835 in Tennessee.
4. Lucy A E Puckett was born 1839 in Tennessee; married John W Martin on December 4, 1856 in Henry, Henry County, Tennessee; died 1910 in Collin County, Texas.
5. Susan V Puckett was born June 8,1842 in Tennessee; married William C Martin in Henry, Henry County, Tennessee; died November 19, 1948 in McKinney, Collin County, Texas.
6. William S Puckett was born about 1842 in Tennessee.
7. Louisa Puckett was born about 1843 in Tennessee.

She lived in Henry County, Tennessee, according to the census records. Her husband seems to have died before the 1850 census, as he is not listed.

Thirza is shown on the 1850 Census Slave Schedule as owning 11 enslaved people: a black female age 42 (born about 1808), a black male age 35 (born about 1815), a black male age 14 (born about 1836), a black male age 11 (born about 1839), a black male age 10 (born about 1840), a black female age 8 (born about 1842), a black female age 7 (born about 1843), a black female age 6 (born about 1844), a black female age 5 (born about 1845), aand two black females age 2 ( both born about 1848).

Thirza may have died in 1858, according the other genealogy websites. No references for her death have been found. She is not on the 1860 census with her children.

Andrew Hiram was born in West Virginia. They were living in Kentucky when Thirza, William, Ruth, and twins Elizabeth and Elizabeth Virginia were born. Charles had fine horses running in the pasture in West Virginia and later in Kentucky. Tradition has it that Charles and three of his sons accompanied his son Andrew Hiram to Missouri. Whether Mother Elizabeth came and died in Missouri, we do not know. She died on January 28, 1835. Charles lived for seventeen more years. We don't know but he probably went to Kirtland and Nauvoo with Andrew Hiram. He died July 9, 1852.
