Biography

Nancy "Nannie" Whitlock was born to Agnes Alford and Robert Whitlock on 14 Nov 1763 in St James Northam parish, British Colony of Virginia. [1]

On November 30, 1843, in Stokes County, NC, Nancy Flinn, 88, filed for widow’s pension stating that she is the widow of John Flinn dec’d who was a pensioner for his services in the Revolution at the rate of $96/annum; that she married him in 1784; that he died October 20th 1842; that she had the records in the County where she was married searched but no record of her marriage was found. She doesn’t name the County in which she was married but there is a letter in the file dated February 4, 1845, from JL Edwards, Commissioner of Pensions stating that the certificate of the Clerk of Caswell County, NC stating that there is no record of the marriage in that County and the affidavit of Susanna Brown says they were married around 1784 is not sufficient proof.

That she has no family record of her marriage or the births of her children but to the best of her recollection her children were born as follows:
Patrick Flinn was born 1784
John Flinn born 1786
Elizabeth Flinn born 1788
Nancy Flinn born 1790
Stephen Flinn born 1792
Alfred Flinn born 1794
William Flinn born 1796
Susannah Flinn born 1798
Izah Flinn born 1800
Jesse Flinn born 1802
Green Flinn born 1804
Mary Flinn born 1806
Dalila Flinn born 1808

On September 10, 1845, Alfred Flin gave testimony in Stokes County, NC, that Nancy Flin widow of John Flin died on the 28th day of February 1845 survived by seven children, to wit: Alfred, John, Elizabeth (intermarried with Elijah Knight), Stephen, Zera, Mary (intermarried with Enoch Calhoun) and Delilah Flin.

Just found Nancy's birth record and put it on. You can do this too. It will help people find their ancestors easier if they have information with sources.
The profile needs the story of the person. Sources are meant to support each observation of the ancestor ie when born, when married, when died, etc. This Biography has no story. Under Sources is citations with parts of the story that should be in Biography. And not one of us has "first hand knowledge" of someone born in 1763...no one should be using that statement unless it is more within your own lifetime. Last of all, the Ancestry link no longer works. These need checking often.
