Biography

Amanda was born in 1845. She was the daughter of John Whitman and Sarah Brown. She passed away in 1917.

From the Find A Grave website:

Birth:  May 30, 1845 Salisbury Rowan County North Carolina, USA Death:  Sep. 5, 1917 Royse City Rockwall County Texas, USA

Amanda was born in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC, the daughter of John Alexander Whitman and Sarah Ann (Brown) Whitman. Her father, John, was a Civil War veteran who died of chronic dysentary in a Union prison camp, in Newport News, VA., in 1865. Her mother, Sarah came from a very old NC family, descended from Michael "Braun".

On April 19, 1870, Amanda married Jacob Relaford Kluttz. There were six children, born of this union: Eleanor Meatta (1871); John Calvin (1876); Margaret Ann (1878); Mary Emma (1880); Lydia Jane (1883); and Carrie Bell (1888).

In 1886, the Kluttz family sold all of their possessions and came, by train, to Texas, settling in the Blackland Community of Rockwall Co. This was a cotton growing area, and there was a cotton gin, general store, school, church, and a cemetery. The family first lived on and farmed, at least a part of, the "Harvey" farm. In time, they bought their own farm in the Munson Community. As it turned out, Jacob was a very successful farmer! They raised nearly everything they ate, vegetables, fruits, hogs, cows, chickens, bees, etc. Many times, friends and family would gather, and Carrie would play the family pump-organ. Daily, after supper, was family devotional time and, every Sunday found them in Church.

Amanda became a mid-wife and delivered many babies, around the local, and surrounding communities.

Later, they moved to Royce City and joined the Methodist Church, there. However, by then, the children had grown and married. Finally, at age 72, Amanda died of uremia.     Family links:   Parents:   John Alexander Whitman (1822 - 1865)   Sarah Ann Brown Smith (1816 - 1905)    Spouse:   Jacob Relaford Kluttz (1847 - 1927)    Children:   John Calvin Kluttz (1876 - 1961)*   Margaret Ann Kluttz Farmer (1878 - 1939)*   Carrie Belle Kluttz Dillon (1888 - 1952)*    Siblings:   Amanda Cornelia Whitman Kluttz (1845 - 1917)   Milton Alby Whitman (1852 - 1929)*   Mack Connaughey Whitman (1859 - 1917)*    Burial: Royse City Cemetery Royse City Rockwall County Texas, USA   Maintained by: Jay Whitman Originally Created by: Mimi Simpson Davidson Record added: Nov 25, 2010 Find A Grave Memorial# 62142675

Whitman-1806 and Whitman-3068 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. Looks like spouses need merging also.
