He cannot be the son of Charles Whitmore and Catherine Claye. Whitmore would have had to be 64 when he sired Thomas -- not likely. Claye would have been 60 -- pretty much impossible.

It is sometimes a red flag to see an man reported born and died in one English county reported the father of children born in some other English county.
What explains the variance reported about this man, Whitmore-145, born 1672 and died 1617 at Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England, with supposed son, John Whitmore, born "Bristol, Somersetshire, England" in 1589 (when the father would have been 17).
The mother of that child is called "Mary (Mead) Whitmore" Meade-44, She is reported born in 1558. While men were known to marry women older, what are the records that show the Thomas Whitmore born in 1572 indeed married a woman much his senior?
