Research Notes

Disputed Parents / Origins:

The notion that Samuel Allen's wife, Ann _____, was Ann Whitmore is disputed. See the 2014 G2G.

The notion that she was born a Whitmore is disputed. In any event, she does not seem to be the daughter of John Whitmore (d. 1648). The John Whitmore who was "killed Stamford, CT by Indians 1648"[2] had a daughter Ann, but she is said to have married Ipswich, Massachusetts, 16 January 1643/4 (16: 11 mo. 1643-4")[3] to George1 Farrow, sometimes seen in records and print, as Farough, Farrar.[4] (Even this association is not uncontroverted. In 1875, William H. Whitmore identified no daughter of John named Ann. Calling him "George Farrough (Farrar)" the author does not associate a specific parentage to the George's wife, Ann Whitmore, but suggests the bride and groom were cousins.)[5]

John had five children born in England before emigrating.[6] One of these was named Ann (or Anne) but that Ann reliably married George Farrow (or Farrar or Farough) and had a completely distinct life from this Ann Whitmore. It is not likely (but possible) that John had two daughters named Ann, both living at the same time.

Torrey's record in New England Marriages prior to 1700 calls her Ann ?Whitmore.

Whitmore-894 and Unknown-438175 are not ready to be merged because: This is possibly a duplicate as the only source was a burial which appears to be the same one. The current Family Search profile states her surname was not Whitmore.

I don't think that John Hulbert should be attached here. I would have written this on his page, but there isn't a profile manager.

I added the unknown first wife of William Hulbert to correct this error.

Whitmore-1910 and Unknown-438175 appear to represent the same person because: Ann Whitmore is an alias of our Ann Unknown. See the 2014 G2G, "Should Ann Whitmore, b. ca. 1612, wife of Samuel Allen, be Renamed "Ann Unknown"

Thank you for supporting WikiTree.

That Samuel's wife was Ann Whitmore is disputed. See the otherwise duplicate profile, Anna (Unknown) Allen (1612-1641), for comments, and the 2014 G2G, "Should Ann Whitmore, b. ca. 1612, wife of Samuel Allen, be Renamed "Ann Unknown"

Admittedly, I am among those who posted in support of her "unknown" identity.

Unless there are objections, I will set a merge of this Ann Whitmore into Anne (Whitmore) Allen (1612-1641),

Thank you again for supporting WikiTree.--Gene

Whytmore-1 and Unknown-438175 appear to represent the same person because: Same death data. Surname of Samuel Allen's wife is not known; seeking to merge away Whytmore into Unknown. Please approve this merge.

Whytmore-1 and Unknown-438175 do not represent the same person because: Not enough info, hardly anything matches

Robert, the death date (and now place) are identical. Samuel Allen's wife was believed to be a Whitmore, but there is no source to substantiate this; we are trying to merge away the Anna Whitmore into this profile. I'm going to re-propose the merge; please approve it. Thanks.

Hi Laura, I wish you good luck in your search for the maiden name of your 9X great grandmother.

Since this profile is for someone born so very long ago, and she migrated to New England between 1620 and 1640, you'll see that she is protected by the Puritan Great Migration Project. So the parents cannot be added except by one of the profile managers in coordination with the PGM project. Many people have tried to discover her maiden name, you'll see because there is several sources already listed in the biography. These sources may be a good place to start your search.

As you research your ancient grandmother, it is a good idea to continue to post your findings here. This profile is monitored by the PGM project and other profile managers, so someone will see your posts and provide feed back. Thanks so much.

Assuming this is the profile for the 1st wife of Samuel Allen of Braintree, Ann's place of birth and 2d husband are no doubt incorrect.

Whytmore-1 and Wetmore-276 appear to represent the same person because: same person

John Wetmore (Wetmore-277) has been attached as the father of Anne Wetmore (Wetmore-276). The system doesn't like this, because John d. "after 1600" while Anne was born in 1612. (Also, he seems to spend his time in Ireland, while she is in England - not impossible, of course, but....) Please reconcile or detach. Thank you.

Wetmore-276 and Whitmore-906 appear to represent the same person because: Sam had two wives...Whitmore and French. Whomever has the most resources wins!
I added an unmerged match to Wetmore-276. If she's a real, but different person then she should be detached from the marriage to Samuel Allen. Otherwise, could we merge her into this profile to get rid of her and detach the father Wetmore-277 if he's incorrect?

Might we also change the birth location to "England" (uncertain), thus removing references to "Woking, Surrey ...?"

Ann has been disconnected from John Whitmore. Her maiden name has been changed to Unknown.

Based on the report of death, shouldn't the given name on this profile be updated to Ann?

Please see G2G for comments about the Whytmore/Whitmore-Allen marriage.

Whytmore-1 and Whytmore-3 are not ready to be merged because: See the sources, references and logic/reasoning on Whytmore-3 explaining why Alex Whytmore seems aka Ann Whitmore who married a man, Samuel Allen.

Ann Whitmore has WikiTree profile Whitmore-2, with father John Whitmore / Whitmore-20 and a mother. See also Ann Whitmore, Whitmore-788, with father John Whitmore and no mother.

Once we resolve the issues about Ales vs Ann, likely both profiles "Ales" will be set as unmerged matches to one of the profiles about Samuel's wife.

Whytmore-3 and Whytmore-1 appear to represent the same person because: Hello! I believe these two profiles are for the same person. Could you check them out to see if they are, and then possibly completing the merge?
