Miss Freda Ruby Dorothy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Dorothy, Butternut Ridge Road, Potsdam became the bride of Alger M. Whitmore, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Whitmore, Hannawa Falls, at a ceremony performed at 2 p.m., at the home of the bride, Sunday, November 7. Rev. Charles E. Thompson of Colton officiated.

A canopy of white net, blue and wine velvet was made as an altar. Mrs. Walter Elmore of Potsdam played organ music and Miss Joan E. Herring, student at Crane Institute, Potsdam, was vocal soloist. She sang "I Love Thee Truly."

Escorted and given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a white satin gown with mesh net covering and off the shoulder neckline. The skirt had a train affect and she wore an illusion veil attached to an oval head piece of lace and satin. She wore white satin ballerina shoes, arm length mitts of white net and a double strand pearl necklace was her only jewelry. She carried a shower bouquet of white pompoms.

Mrs. Winfred Murray of Potsdam, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and Merlin F. Whitmore of Russell, cousin of the groom, was best man. Winfred J. Murray, Potsdam, and Floyd Trombley, Madrid, were ushers. The matron of honor selected a gown of aqua color accompanied by a white headdress of net and white gloves with pearl accessories and black ballerina shoes. She carried a shower bouquet of yellow pompoms.

Mrs. Dorothy, mother of the bride, chose a one piece dress of black crepe with gold accessories. She wore a corsage of pink carnations.

The bridegroom's mother was attired in a velvet dress of deep purple and grey and purple satin. Her corsage was pink carnations.

Mrs. Alan Putman, the bridegrooms, grandmother, and Mrs. Julia Dorothy, grandmother of the bride, were presented with corsages of white carnations.

Mrs. Floyd Trombley, sister of the bride, received a corsage of yellow roses.

Following the ceremony a reception for 75 relatives and friends was held with refreshments and an entertainment program by John Loucks of Massena playing an accordion. Mrs. Juan Loucks and Mrs. Floyd Trombley were in charge of the refreshments and were aided by Mrs. Gordon Griffith, Gouverneur, Miss Barbara Allen, Canton, and Miss Beverly Whitmore, Hannawa Falls as servers of refreshments. The servers wore white pompoms.

Immediately following the ceremony the bridal couple left on a wedding trip through upper New York State and Canada.

A corsage of pink carnations was given the bride as a going away present by her mother. For traveling the bride selected a blue wool gabardine suit, a blue laced hat and black accessories. The bride was graduated from Canton High School.

The bridegroom is a veteran of World War II and served in the Signal Corps. He was graduated from Gouverneur Dean High school and Dierbert's Business school in Philidelphia. He is employed by the Aluminum Company of America in Massena. [1]
