I'm sorry for posting that comment without a source; I was working from an article which I now know to be in error. Thank you for the reply and for helping me realize I need to slow down!
NOTE: bottom of page (error discovered) in John and Elizabeth page "The statement made by Phoenix that there was a son Samuel Whitney of Stratford, CT, who married Anne Laborie, is false, as he was the son of Nathaniel3 Whitney of Weston, MA, as proven by the latter's probate records."
Whitney-566 has the same life dates and places as Whitney-264, but the two profiles have different parents. Methinks that two (or more?) different Samuel Whitneys have been conflated.
