Jonas was born in Marlborough, New Hampshire on July 4, 1805. He is the son of Benjamin Whitney and Nancy Fuller. [1]
He graduated at Dartmouth College in 1833, after which he spent time at various places in New York, and then settled in Missouri. [2]
He married Charlotte Tarman of Ithaca, New York in Dec 1835. [2]
