Biography

Isaac was born in 1817. He is the son of Joseph Whitney and Mary Freeman.[1] On December 2, 1848 he married Mary Ann Dyer. The marriage took place in Standish, Cumberland County, Maine. [2]

In 1850 Isaac and Mary Ann were living with Isaac’s parents in Standish, They had one newly born daughter, Mary Ella Whitney. [3] Isaac passed away in 1859. He is buried in Dolloff Road Cemetery, Standish.[4]

Isaac’s widow, Mary Ann (age 38), was living in Standish in 1860 with her two children: Mary E. Whitney (age 10) and Howard Whitney (age 5). They were living with Isaac’s parents Joseph (83) and Mary (81).[5] In 1880 fifty-six year old Mary Ann (Dyer) Whitney now had a farm in Standish. Howard (25) and “Nellie” [Mary Ella Whitney] (30) were living with their mother.[6]

Mary Ella Whitney married Charles Edgar Roberts. She has a detailed profile on FamilySearch. [7] But, as usual, FamilySearch has an incorrect birth year of 1855 and an incorrect place of birth as Kennebec County, Maine for Mary E. Whitney, daughter of Isaac and Mary Ann Whitney. I left a message on FamilySesarch, so I hope someone will correct it. Mary E. Whitney was only 10 months old at the time of the 1850 U.S. Census in Standish, Maine. The Census was done on August 5, 1850 so that puts Mary's birth at or before October 5, 1849.

Howard Whitney married Addie E. Rand sometime before 1887. They had two daughters: Edna Lynne Whitney and Floris M. Whitney. Howard’s mother Mary Ann passed away in 1890 at the age of 67. She is buried with husband Isaac in Dolloff Road Cemetery, Standish.[8] Howard passed away in 1896 in Standish.[9] He is also buried in Dolloff Road Cemetery, Standish.[10]

Howard’s wife, Addie Whitney, re-married in 1898.[11] Addie (age 37) and her two daughters Edna L. (age 13) and Floris M. (age 11) were living with new husband Melville W. Rand (age 28) in Standish in 1900.[12] Floris Whitney passed away in 1909. She is buried with her parents in Dolloff Road Cemetery, Standish.[13] Addie’s 2nd husband Melville passed away in 1915. She passed away in 1960 at the age of 97 and is buried in Dolloff Road Cemetery.[14]
