Joshua first came to Spencer Co, IN around 1840-1. He was a Merchant and did well there and in Effingham Co, IL.
It is believed his middle name was Bradford. This name is used over and over in this family.
There are many leads and indications that Joshua is the father of Charles W Whitney. We have found no definitive proof that this is indeed the case after 40+ yrs of research.
One of Joshua's great grandsons (Rufus or Enos Whitney) remembers going to IL to visit a grave site and thought the ancestors name was Silas. Ancestry.com wants to connect this Joshua with Silas Whitney of Mass (1781-1824) as a "possible parent".
DNA results have turned up family matches in Canada.
