Biography

Martin Vanburen Whitney was born 21 June 1834 in Phillips, Maine. He was the son of Benjamin Whitney and Susan Wells. [1][2] [3]

Martin wed Nancy M Pease 17 February 1861 in Strong, Maine. [4] They had one son, Theron Whitney. Nancy passed away 29 January 1865.

Martin wed second Abbie Quimby Toothaker about 1866. They had one son, Edward Howard Whitney, born September 1867. Martin and Abbie divorced in March 1869 in Franklin, Maine. [5]

In 1870, Martin worked in cotton mill and boarded in the house of Catherine Poole Towle, his future wife.[6] He wed Catherine Poole, widow of John Towle, 10 March 1890. [7] They had no children.

Martin passed away in 1924 in Greene, Maine. [8]
