The 1850 U.S. Census recorded John T. Rood, a farmer, and Mahala Rood, both age 50, in Roxbury, Washington County, Vermont. Others in the household were Lemuel Rood, 18, a laborer; Lucinda Rood, 14; and Charles Rood, 9. All were born in Vermont.[3]
Mahala (Whitney) Rood died at age 75 in Bethel, Vermont, on 4 March 1875. The death record indicates that she was born in Williamstown to parents Elijah and Hannah Whitney, and she was married at the time of her death. Death was attributed to general debility.[4]
