Biography

Mehitabail was born 11 Nov 1792 in Ashford, Connecticut.[1] She is the daughter of Wilson Whiton and Mary Hanks.

Children of Wilson Whiton baptized 30 Sep 1798 in Ashford Connecticut included Mehetable, Tabitha, Persis, Samuel, Jared, James, and Philena.[2]

After the death of his wife in 1809, Wilson Whiton moved from Ashford, Connecticut to Onondaga County, New York with his 9 children, and changed the spelling of his name from Whiton to Whiting.[3]

Notes on her first name. Both Connecticut Vital Records and the Barbour Collection, from Ashford, Connecticut Vital Records spell her name Mehitabail. Connecticut Church Record abstracts from Ashford V1, p.220 spell her name Mehetable. The Whiton family genealogy spells her name Mehitable.
