Biography

Joseph was born March 23, 1687 (birthdate is Old Style. Born 1686-7), and is the son of James and Abigail (Rickard) Whiton. He married first Martha Tower at Hingham, MA on Decemeber 10, 1713, who passed away September 19, 1719.

He removed to Rehoboth, MA where he married second Rebecca Wilson after April 9, 1720 (date of intentions). They had two children there before removing to Ashford, CT.

His occupation is listed as a cooper. He and his family were members of the Congregational Church in Ashford, CT.

Joseph died at Ashford, CT on May 8, 1777.

He is buried Westford Hill Cemetery in the Westford section of Ahsford, Ct. "The History of Hingham describes him as a conscientious, unobtrusive and hardworking man. He must have thought very much of his second wife, for in his will he provided that if she married again she should in addition to her share of his estate have £100 additional."[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
