William Hughs reports an Elizabeth Whitson (Mrs. Samuel Harris) is shown in Jefferson County Cemetery book. Her husbands age indicates this could be Reuben's sister. Upon locating to Keokuk County, Iowa in 1841, Reuben located on a tract of government land in Jackson Twp. In 1843 he disposed of this farm and purchased 200 acres lying one mile west of the original place. In the History of Keokuk County book, dated 1880, it states that in 1846 the government offered for sale all the lands in Keokuk County. Reuben was listed as one of the buyers (presumably for this 200 acres). The land was bought for $1.25 per acre. In 1844 Reuben was one of three individuals appointed to view and survey the Rock Creek road. On December 31,1853, Reuben Whitson was shown as a witness in the proceeds to land sold by Petillo Whitson & Winaritty (husband & wife) to James Whitson.
