Census UK 1881 3 Apr 1881 was age 10 and the daughter of the head of the household at 92 Sparth Road, Clayton-le-Moors, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom; Occupation: Cotton Weaver.[4]

Married 27 Oct 1888 to Hartley Hope at St. James, Altham, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. Elizabeth is noted as being aged 19 with an occupation of Weaver and as living in Sparth Road, Clayton.[5]

Census UK 1891 5 Apr 1891 was age 19 and the wife of the head of the household at Back Canal Row, Clayton Le Moors, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom; Occupation: Cotton Weaver.[6]

Court Case - Child Neglect 13 Feb 1901 Elizabeth appeared before Accrington Police Court along with her husband Hartley charged with child cruelty against their six children with the case being brought on behalf of the NSPCC. The family had been under supervision since 11 Sep 1900. Particular reference is made to the condition of their daughter Clara , aged four, who had lost the sight in one eye and the other was inflamed due to neglect. The reason for the neglect was put down to Hartley's drinking habit and that Elizabeth had "probably lost heart". The Court found the case proved. The Court wanted to reserve judgment on any penalty for one month pending further reports on the family's progress during the intervening period.[7]

Census UK 1901 31 Mar 1901 was age 30 and the wife of the head of the household at 13 Cross Edge, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom; Occupation: none noted.[8]

Court Case - Child Neglect 7 Apr 1904 Elizabeth's husband Hartley appeared before Police Court at Church, Lancashire charged with Child Neglect. It was reported the NSPCC inspector had visited the family in May 1903 who were then living in a condemned house at Cross Edge, Oswaldtwistle without the owner's permission. By this time Elizabeth had left the family; supposedly leaving for another man.[9]

Research

No details have yet been found for Elizabeth after the report of the Court Case in Apr 1904. The 1911 census return for Hartley describes him as a widower but given the family situation this might not be accurate.[10]
