Richard, son of Daniel, b. in 1698, a younger brother of Joseph, of Rumney Marsh, father of Edmund, settled in Killingly, Conn., a town in the same county, at that time, and in close proximity to the town of Mansfield. He is put down in the records of Killingly as Richard Whitmore. Evidently, a mistake in the records, unless Richard dropped the middle syllable of his name after he settled in Killingly. His father Daniel spelled his surname with three syllables.[1]
