1776 Project
Private James Whittemore served with 9th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

James Whittemore was born on December 22, 1754 in Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay. His parents were James Whittemore and Mary Sherman. [1] [2] [3] [4]

His occupation was cordwainer. [4]

He was a Private in Capt. Samuel Gilbert's company, Col. William Prescott's 9th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, serving 5 days. He enlisted and served 55 days. He died on October 18, 1775 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay of wounds received at Bunker Hill. [5] [6] [7] [4]
