Berry was born in 1837. He passed away in 1912 and is buried at Brownwood Baptist Church Cemetery in Morgan County, Georgia, USA
Newborn, Ga., April 23. --- (Special.) --- The funeral of Berry A Whitten, of this place, occurred this afternoon at 1 o'clock at Brownwood Baptist church near here, Rev. Thomas M. Elliott officiating. The deceased was 75 years of age. He served with distinction in the Civil War with the Forty-seventh Alabama regiment. At the battle of Fort Smith, Ark., he was captured and detained in the Rock Island, Ill., prison for six months. A widow and eleven children survive him. His children are as follows: L. L., J. N. and James Whitten, of Atlanta; R. L. and C. B. Whitten, Mrs Geraldine Allen and Mrs. Sylvina Saye, of Rutledge; W. C. Whitten and Mrs. Mattie E Adams, of Madison; H. F. Whitten, of Apalachee, and B. M. Whitten, of Newborn. Berry and wife had three consecutive sets of twins among their children.
