Thomas Whitten/Whitney of Plymouth Colony Possibly the same person [Maybe incorporate this narrative into Thomas Whitten (abt.1599-1664) or merge these two profiles.
In 1635 they boarded the Elizabeth and Ann and made the voyage to Plymouth Colony with their only surviving child, Jeremy/Jeremiah Whitton, age 8, along with Audria's children from her first marriage, Bennett Morecock, age 16, Nicholas Morecock, age 14 and Mary Morecock, age 10.
Upon taking residence at Plymouth, he used the name "Thomas Whitney" quite frequently so any research should take this into consideration.
Thomas held the office of Constable in Plymouth in 1646 and 1655 and was a jury member on numerous occasions from 1643 to 1656. He received a number of land grants in the Plymouth area and one in Rhode Island.
The date of death for his wife Audria is unknown but was prior to November 22, 1639, which is the date Thomas married Winyfride Harding.
Thomas and Winyfride had no children but on January 18, 1643/44 William Hoskins gave his four year old daughter, Sarah, to them to foster until she reached the age of 20 years. He did this after his wife Sarah (Cushman) Hoskins had died and he had married Ann Hynes. Then on January 30, 1649, they adopted the son of Thomas' step-daughter Bennett (Moorecock) Smith and her husband John Smith. Jeremiah Smith was four years old when the agreement was made that Thomas and Winyfride would adopt him and raise him as their own.
Winyfride died at Plymouth on July 23, 1660 and Thomas married a third time to Patience (Morton) Faunce, widow of Thomas Faunce and daughter of George Morton. She died at Plymouth on August 16, 1691 at the age of 76 years.
Thomas died prior to March 1673/74, the date the inventory of his estate was presented to the court.
Thomas is not the father of James Whiton who came from Hook Norton, Oxfordshire, England and settled at Hingham, Massachusetts. His father, Thomas Wyton, never immigrated to New England and died at Hook Norton, Oxfordshire in 1647. See: James Whitten (bef.1624-1710) Son James was baptised in Hook Norton in 1624... - "JAMES, son of Thomas (1) was born in Hook Norton, near Banbury, Oxfordshire, England, where he was baptized in 1624, as appears by the parish register of that place."
