This is the profile for the younger son John of Abraham Whittier of Marblehead and Manchester, Massachusetts, to whom the probate court ordered that £5 should be paid out of Abraham's estate when John turned 21.
Date and Place of Birth
Based on the fact that he chose a guardian on November 25, 1679, John as at least 16 at that time and still under 21, so he was born sometime in 1658-1663. Based on his being at least 21 in December 1681, John was born no later than 1660. John was thus born sometime in 1658-1660. Since John's father was probably a resident of Manchester during that time period, John was probably born there.
Maternal Parentage
Based on John's birth in 1658-1660, John's mother was his father's second wife named Mary, whose maiden name has not been determined.

On June 27, 1682, the Court at Salem granted power of administration of John's estate to John Knight and Mary his wife, John's father-in-law and mother and directed them to a payment out of the estate of £5 to Isaac and Abraham, brothers of the deceased, at the age of 21 years.[1][2]
