Biography

Name

Name: John Wyatt[1]

Birth

Date: 1712
Place: Gloucester, Virginia, USA[2]

Note

Conquest (b 1652/54) had five sons, Francis, Conquest II, James, Edward and John. Each of these sons had a son named John. We think we know some history on these Johns except for John, the son of James (b 1674).
According to the Gloucester County, Va Land Tax Records there was a John Wiatt who died around 1789-1790. Using the process of elimination, I believe that this John was a son of James Wiatt/Wyatt (b 1674).
In the Land Tax Records the John who died 1789/90 is sometimes listed as John Wiatt Sr. Also listed in these records is a John Wiatt Jr. who died in 1795.
I believe that John Sr. was the father or uncle of the John Jr.
The following information is from the Vestry of Petsworth Parish by Chamberlayne (1933). page 337: 14 Mar 1768: Mr John Wiatt is chosen as Vestry Man in the room of Capt John Wiatt who is removed out of the Parish.
page 377: 5 Dec 1785: Benj Dabney is chosen Vestryman in the room of Mr. John Wiatt who resigns.
It looks this John Wiatt served in the Vestry from 1768 through 1785.
I believe that this Vestry member is the John Wiatt who was the son of James Wiatt/Wyatt (b 1674). John was born about 1712.
If John joined the Vestry in 1768 then he would have been age 56 when he joined. Age 56 fits good for joining the vestry.
I also believe that this Vestry member is the John Wiatt listed on the Land Tax Records as John Wiatt Sr and who died in 1789-90.
My theory is that John was feeling his age and he just could not attend the Vestry meetings like he used to (or had the desire to), so he resigned in 1785. He died in 1789-90.
Of course there is no direct proof for any of my theories but the dates do fit.
