Anne Wickham (or Whigam) was born 9 January 1661/2 at The Rock, County Wicklow, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Coleman) Wickham. The Wickhams were also Quakers. John Wickham was the son of Richard and Elizabeth Wickham, of Shannington, Gloucestershire. The Wickham family lived at Kilmurry, County Wicklow.
Marriage in the Quaker community required the approval of the entire “meetings” of both men and women. And this approval needed to be requested twice. Since Samuel and Anne came from different counties, approval of both sets of meetings was needed. In the Wexford meeting records we read the following:
“Samuel Grundy and Anne Wickham have presented themselves and signified their intention of Marriage to this meeting, and it is signifyed that they have their parents consent, therefore Friends of Wicklow and Wexford are desired to make what further Enquiry about their Cleerness [sic] as they see meet, and to take Care to get a Certificate from his parents and send it to this meeting at their second presentation.”
They had 13 children. Samuel and Anne left the Ballyconnick area in 1720. In 1722, they were living at Ballynapierce, in the Parish of St. John's, County Wexford. Nothing further is known about them after this date.
