Probate: Wills; p. 131 ; family history library film #8166 part 2; Note: Letters of Admin granted June 29, 1698; will proved September 27, 1698
Date: 1698
Place: Westmoreland County, Virginia, USA

Will of David "Whitley" presented in court, and probate granted to David and Robert Whitley, executors. The decedant is David II, and the two executors are David III and Robert II.

David Wickliffe III was born in Westmoreland County, VA in about 1678, the son of David II and his first wife, Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). [1] Specifically:

"20 Feb. 1675/6. Elizabeth Whitliffe, aged 25 yeares or thereabouts, sayeth that about five yeares since your deponent's husband David Whitliffe did buy a servant woman of Mr. Patricke Spence who asked David . . .

Eliza: Whettley"

Therefore, David III's father, David II, was married to Elizabeth before 1671, and was still married to him in Feb 1675/6, making her the mother of David III.

David was born in Westmoreland County, VA around 1670, as he had to be of age in 1693 when he was appointed executor of his father's estate (according to colonial law, to be an executor, he would have had to be at least 21). As his brother Robert was also of age, and it is believed David was the elder, this puts his birthdate about 1670. This means his mother wasn't Mary, who m. David II after Sep 1677. He was the son of David II's first wife, Elizabeth, who is recorded in Westmoreland County as David's wife in 1675 (see above).

He served as co-executor of the estate of his father, David Wickliffe II,[2]

David III Wickliffe died intestate in Westmoreland County, VA in about 1698 and his wife, Elizabeth, was the administrator of his estate.[3]

David III's wife was indeed Elizabeth, but not Elizabeth Cullum/Cullen. Elizabeth Cullum was the wife of David's son, Isaac Wickliffe, and the daughter of Mark Cullen and Elizabeth Kimball. It has been theorized that David's wife was Elizabeth King, but no evidence has been given to support this.
