Private Clarence Wicks was born in September of 1845 in Wisconsin. He was the son of Perley Wicks and Sarah Flowers. Clarence entered the Civil War and was stationed first at Camp Randle, Madison, Wisconsin. As a guard at age 17, he shot a prisoner and was brought to court and the court proceedings cleared Clarence of any wrongdoing in the shooting and killing of a prisoner. Later Clarence Wicks was taken prisoner himself and on June 1, 1864 arrived at Cold Harbor, Va. He died there on July 15, 1864 of wounds. He was from Co F 36th Reg Wis Volunteers.
