Biography

Joseph Widdifield is/was a significant Ontarian .
He received an M.D. from Victoria University (1869), and graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons, London (1870). He worked as a physician in Newmarket until becoming sheriff in 1888.

He was also a Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1875 to 1888. During this time he served as "Parilament Whip" for the "Mowat Party", and was chair of the Standing Orders Committee for seven years. In 1892 Widdifield purchased a home at 178 St. George St. (at the corner of Prince Arthur Ave.) in Toronto.
