Leonard Wideman was born July 4th of 1768 at Granville, North Carolina in British Colonial America to Johan Henrich Wideman and his wife Mary, Madden name unknown at this time.
Leonard married Savil Haney about 1787 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of William Patrick Hanvey and his wife Sarah. Leonard Wideman had a plantation named Oak Grove. Leonard and Savil had at least seven children we know of. Francis born about 1789, Henry born July 1792, Leonard Jr born April 1796, Catherine born about 1797, Samuel born about 1798, Susanna born about 1803, Lucinda known as Lucy who married Joseph Duvall, she born 1804, and lastly, Edward born in 1809, all in Abbeville, South Carolina.
Leonard died the 6th of October 1831 in Abbeville, South Carolina and is He is buried in the Wideman “Red Row” Cemetery, McCormick County, S. C. Off Highway 28. Savil Wideman is also buried in this cemetery. She died in 1847. There is a stone marker stating he was murdered by his slaves.
