Genealogical Work

The past is never dead. It's not even past. -- Requiem for a Nun, William Faulkner

All of us labor in webs spun long before we were born, webs of heredity and environment, of desire and consequence, of history and eternity. Haunted by wrong turns and roads not taken, we pursue images perceived as new, but whose provenance dates to the dim dramas of childhood, which are themselves but echoes of consequence, echoing down the generations. -- The Quiet Game, Greg Iles

In God we trust, all others bring sources -- Lynn Wiggers

I have spent thousands of hours on thousands of profiles, collecting what others have done and researching what they have not into this one place on WikiTree. I have tried my very best to be accurate, and yet I do find my own errors all too often, and often when doing more research, I find errors in the work of others, knowing they have done their best to be accurate as well, that I have unwittingly duplicated. If any errors are found in my work please do not hesitate to bring them to my attention or correct them, as appropriate. I will not be offended, but instead very grateful.

DNA Painter Profile [1]

To Do List

Royal Lineage

“He who boasts of his descent, praises the deed of another.” Seneca

Don’t be tricked into thinking having royal blood is rare. Statistically, we’re all descended from the royals. A professor at Yale University worked out that if anyone living in the year 1200 left any descendants who are alive now, then that person is statistically an ancestor of every single person on the planet.[2]

The number of ancestors doubles every generation, so at 40 generations, back to Charlemagne, you have over 1 trillion ancestors. That is 2000 times the population of the planet at the time. If you, like me, are of primarily western European descent, practically all 1 trillion of them, you are almost completely assured of being descended from some member of European royalty. That's a 2000:1 chance in your favor on each and every member of royalty. I'll take those odds at any casino and retire very, very rich. How many times can you lose?

It would be more amazing if you were not descended from royalty. The only question is whether or not you can trace it.

I'm appreciative of the work my ancestors have done to document and trace ancestry and it's an honor to be connecting this way and extending it.

Cool facts follow: (Because there are those who like this "game")

Presidential Cousins

The fact that these are constantly shifting is an indication of WikiTree's commitment to accuracy and constant review to correct errors.

It's not that I mind so much how many, or which, or how distantly I'm related to them... It's how many of them I actually remember that bothers me. And on the other hand, I've always been a big fan of Thomas Jefferson.

Military Ancestors

  • Bacon's Rebellion (I'll concede this is not strictly military, if you'll grant me "Freedom Fighters")

You win!

I checked relationship with each team member on Southern Colonies bio builder and you and I have the closest relationship. Oddly enough I'm related to every single team member....the furthest is 16 generations. I think we are connected all over the world.

Lynn and Kim are 8th cousins twice removed Lynn Wiggers and Kim (Kroesing) Marcus M.S. are both descendants of Mary Elizabeth (Waller) Herndon (1678-abt.1732).

I'm looking forward to working with you and learning from you.

Hi Lynn, Thanks for checking in. Still learning my way around wikitree and genealogy. It's been fun learning about the old folks and new things. I'll have to give the G2G forum a look to see what that is all about. Trying to work on sourcing and keeping things straight.
